The year 2027 marks the 70th anniversary of the recording and release of his global hit “Jailhouse Rock” as well as the cult film of the same name, starring Elvis Presley in the lead role.

From his first studio recording as a gift for his mother, through his early days with Sam Phillips at the regional label Sun Records and the release of his first single, “That’s All Right,” in 1954, to his move to the national RCA label and his international breakthrough in 1956 with “Heartbreak Hotel,” his debut album “Elvis Presley,” and his manager “Colonel” Tom Parker, all the way to the legendary “Aloha from Hawaii” concert in 1973 at the Honolulu International Center Arena—the first concert by a solo artist to be broadcast via satellite to over 40 countries around the world, and one that achieved higher viewership ratings in the U.S. than the first moon landing had just a few years earlier.

Elvis Aaron Presley, born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi, became the “King of Rock ’n’ Roll” and the most important figure in 20th-century rock and pop culture over the course of his incomparable career. Presley gave his final concert in June 1977, before officially passing away shortly thereafter on August 16 from a sudden cardiac arrest at his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Yet legends and myths continue to surround his death, ensuring that the “King” remains unforgettable to this day. For his fans, he is still alive—at least in their hearts.
