Since April 2023, Sudan has once again been engulfed in civil war - millions of people are suffering from hunger, violence and displacement. The documentary Sudan - A hospital in the shadow of war follows surgeon Joseph Yacoub in the remote Nuba Mountains. There, he and his team have been providing medical care in a Cap Anamur-run hospital for almost 30 years - despite overwork, shortages and the constant threat of being close to the front. The film shows the tireless commitment to patients and the hope of a new generation of doctors.

About the organization

Cap Anamur / Deutsche Not-Ärzte e.V. has been providing humanitarian aid in crisis and war zones worldwide for over 45 years. The focus is on providing medical care to people in need - quickly, directly and sustainably. Cap Anamur works closely with local specialists, trains them and thus strengthens local health structures in the long term.

Cap Anamur / Deutsche Not-Ärzte e.V. has been active in Sudan for almost 30 years - one of the organization's longest humanitarian commitments. Cap Anamur runs a hospital in the difficult-to-access Nuba Mountains, which is often the only accessible medical facility for hundreds of thousands of people. Despite the ongoing fighting, the team manages to carry out vital operations, attend births and provide emergency care.
