The Celebration Gospel Choir is a guest at the Capitol Mannheim. The approximately 45 singers are looking forward to singing the magnificent work "A Soulful Celebration". This is the gospel version of Handel's oratorio "Messiah".
It is full of jazz and soul elements, from classic big band swing to funk, reggae and hip hop. The original is not simply "jazzed up" - rather, the styles meet at eye level and cross-fertilize each other. The work is based on the CD "A Soulful Celebration" by Quincy Jones, which won a Grammy in 1993.
The Celebration Gospel Choir had the work rearranged for the concert stage by its pianist Joe Völker. This "Soul Messiah" sets standards in the field of contemporary gospel and at the same time builds a bridge to the baroque oratorio. The Celebration Gospel Choir under the direction of Anne Westrich presents this work in a virtuoso, multi-faceted and rousing manner together with its brilliant soloists and the excellent six-piece professional accompanying band. Special guest Darius Merstein-McLeod, an artist known throughout Europe, will be singing.
