CHOREIA - ein PolyBallett von CocoonDance

25 years and not a bit quieter! Quite the opposite: the latest production "Choreia - A PolyBallet" by the CocoonDance Company Bonn, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, gives the predominantly silent form of expression dance its voice back.

Following its world premiere in Switzerland and its German and French premieres in Montreuil/Paris, CHOREIA can only be seen at the Theater im Ballsaal Bonn on Thu. 22/Fri. 23/Sat. 24 May.

The Bonner General-Anzeiger wrote about the German premiere last Thursday in Düsseldorf: " Whirling bodies, gasping voices, an intoxicating soundscape: the new Bonn CocoonDance production "Choreia" unfolds a suggestive force - until the audience itself begins to sing. ... With "Choreia", ... CocoonDance has once again created a piece of hypnotic intensity. The Bonn-based company has long since established itself as one of the most influential formations in European dance. The applause in Düsseldorf betrayed great enthusiasm.

The Parisian critic Olivier Frégaville-Gratian d'Amore sums up: "We sense the memory of identities, wounds and metamorphoses in every movement. And it is this density, intimacy and sensitivity that makes the piece so moving."

Choreia, the CocoonDance Company's latest project, searches for the lost space of community. In order to dissolve existing divisions such as those between stage and auditorium, choral forms of body, space and sound from folklore, ballet and ancient comedy are used, which have the power to overcome physical distance. The voice, which can touch and move over great distances, is indispensable.

The production explores both the power of monophony and polyphony, which results from the differences and deviations in the sense of a polyphonic aesthetic.

One hour before each performance, CocoonDance invites the audience to a choral introduction with choreographer Rafaële Giovanola.

CocoonDance constantly transforms the theater into a space of transformation that challenges the notions of dance and the body. The abstract yet intense productions make each performance an unforgettable journey into a world of ideas and physicality. The collective project CocoonDance around the Swiss choreographer Rafaële Giovanola, winner of the German theater award DER FAUST 2022 and recently the Italian Danza&Danza award as "best choreographer contemporary dance", has become an integral part of the European dance scene. Since its foundation in 2000, the company has toured five continents with around 50 productions and has received several invitations to renowned national and international dance events. Intensive, almost unlimited body research and collective decision-making processes are the basis for the aesthetic density and dramaturgical consistency of the works. Since 2009, CocoonDance has been supported by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of its top and excellence funding.
