Chris de Burgh is touring Germany this fall with a special new album in his luggage. "I
have selected my favorite songs from each of my previous studio albums for '50'," says the singer/guitarist/pianist, "and recorded three new songs to go with them. So it will be a great opportunity to show what I've been up to on tour. It's just a sample of my work, of course, because I've written around 330 songs so far."

The stage pro also reveals a few things about the concerts: "This tour is about going back to my beginnings, when I performed solo with guitar or piano accompaniment. I will also talk about the music at the guest appearances, about the origins of the songs and their background."

Fact: Chris de Burgh's anniversary concerts will be something special! Tickets for these events are available in advance. Looking back on over 45 million records sold and almost 4,000 concerts worldwide was still unimaginable for Chris de Burgh in 1974 - back when his debut "Far Beyond These Castle Walls" was released. "When I held the copy of that record in my hands, I had absolutely no idea that it would come to this," he recalls. "I was incredibly naive about the music business, but full of hope and dreams. In a spectacular way, my dreams not only came true, they became truer than true. I had no idea I would last 50 years."

A song from his first LP gave a hint of what was to come for Chris: the single "Flying" spent 17 weeks at number 1 in Brazil. "I thought: 'Right, I'm off - a global star, overnight'," recalls de Burgh. "From then on, it was hard work and a tough time, but the experience I had at my parents' hotel, performing for the guests there, made me believe that I had something I could give to people." He puts it poetically himself: "What I wanted to achieve was to look at the world as a globe and turn on lights there. Some of them took longer to come on, some never worked, some dimmed later, which is natural." He is clear about who he has to thank for his long success: "Without the love and support of my audience, I would never have had such a long career".
