Chris James, born 1995 in Hilden as Christopher James Brenner, is a German-American musician who is mainly active in Germany. He is the son of an American and a German and grew up in Los Angeles until the age of four.

James began his musical career in 2014 under the name Chris Brenner, along with a band with whom he lived in a shared apartment. They released music, including the first single "Before We Fall", other singles and two EPs. On his YouTube channel, he published weekly cover versions of popular songs. In 2018, he decided to stop making cover music and changed his stage name to Chris James.

His first single as Chris James, "I Know You Can Dance," was released in March 2018 through BMG Rights Management. He was later asked by BTS, a well-known South Korean band, to write a song for them. The song, which he wrote in collaboration with Alina Paulsen aka Ruuth, was released by BTS as "Life Goes On" and reached the top of the charts in the United States.
In 2020, he moved to Berlin and released his debut album "The Art of Overthinking". At the end of 2020, his track "Not angry" was distributed through the app Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok. Nine million videos with the song in the background were released.

In 2023, he co-wrote the song "Komet" by Apache 207 and Udo Lindenberg, which spent 15 weeks at the top of the official German charts, making it one of the most successful German-language songs in 33 years. In the same year, he released his EP "Why Should We Turn Around?" on Nettwerk.

Initially, Chris James will support the German superstar Nico Santos at three concerts in the summer of 2023. In the process, he will make stops on Zingst and Norderney as well as in Bremerhaven. This will be followed in January 2024 by his own German tour with shows in Hamburg, Hanover, Berlin, Munich and Cologne.
