Christian Elsässer Jazz Orchestra

Size Matters. Few musicians in Europe know how to work with large ensembles like Christian Elsässer. The textures, timbres, details and forms that the Munich-based musician extracts from the lavishly scored formations are unbelievable. He has already composed and arranged for the Dutch Metropole Orkest, the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra and all German radio big bands. And he has long been an institution with his own Christian Elsässer Jazz Orchestra.

This ensemble, which was awarded the Bavarian Arts Promotion Prize in 2016, brings together Munich's jazz celebrities from different generations. The pianist, composer, bandleader and conductor Christian Elsässer uses it to transfer the richness of sound of classical symphonic aesthetics to jazz, to bypass the conventions of conventional big band music and to realize his adventurous ideas of orchestral music.
