Ciné-Club: „Les Algues vertes“

The Ciné-Club is back! Since September is marked by numerous environmental initiatives across Europe, the Institut français Bremen is joining in. This Ciné-Club offers the opportunity to shed light on the vital and highly topical issue of the environment through Pierre Jolivet’s film *Les Algues vertes *.

With this film, the director crafts a gripping investigative thriller based on a true story. The film chronicles the struggle of Inès Léraud, a young journalist with a deep ecological conscience. She decides to move to Brittany to investigate a disturbing phenomenon: no fewer than three people and forty animals have been found dead on the beaches of Brittany, and the identity of the culprit is an open secret: green algae.

Through her encounters with whistleblowers, scientists, farmers, and politicians, Inès Léraud lifts the veil on half a century of systematic silence. Amid samples that have vanished from laboratories, bodies hastily buried before autopsies could be performed, lobbying, and political pressure, she uncovers a deeply rooted code of silence designed to protect powerful economic interests.
