Cinema Italia: GUILIETTA DEGLI SPIRITI - OmU
Signora Giulietta has thought up a surprise dinner for their 15th wedding anniversary. Her husband arrives at the villa with friends, including a spiritualist. But the marriage falls apart. In the villa, on the beach, in the garden and in the pine forest, Giulietta pursues fairytale visions. She makes friends with her fun-loving neighbor Susy, who is throwing a crazy party next door. Giulietta's husband moves out. Ghosts appear in the empty house. But Giulietta is no longer afraid. Fellini's exploration of psychoanalysis led to his most cheerful and playful film, photographed in gloriously luminous colors by Gianni Di Venanzo and accompanied by one of Nino Rota's most beautiful scores. Giulietta Masina, Fellini's long-time muse and wife, plays the initially lonely woman who gains new self-confidence by confronting the forces of her own imagination. We are showing this classic in a newly restored version as a tribute to the 30th anniversary of Giulietta Masina's death.
