Codefendants
In the organizer's words:
Codefendants are a genre-blending punk collective that fuses alternative, hip-hop, and rock into a sound they themselves describe as “Crimewave.” Founded by Fat Mike (NOFX), Julio “Ceschi” Ramos, and Sam King (Get Dead), the band combines raw punk aggression with sharp lyrics, dark humor, and an honesty that comes straight from the streets. The Codefendants—three “dangerous bastards” with criminal records and musical ambitions—smashed through the window of a music industry built on lip-syncing and surefire formulas for success like a Molotov cocktail.
Here are the suspects: Sam King, a punk rock veteran with tattooed fists and scars from a thousand wrong turns in life; and Julio “Ceschi” Ramos—poet, ex-convict, and a spirit of underground hip-hop who once sold weed to pay the rent in a world where you had to pay interest even on your dreams. Both hail from the chaos of the Bay Area and met within the sacred, graffiti-covered walls of 924 Gilman Street—a punk rock church without pews, but with all the more sinners.
Both had long criminal records: serious offenses, court appearances, and enough bad decisions to fill an entire Netflix documentary series. Fat Mike, on the other hand, once spent 24 hours in the Disneyland jail for causing a disturbance—not exactly a hardened criminal, but criminal enough to have the necessary punk rock credentials. It was a connection that seemed forged in legal hell, yet the chemistry between them was undeniable.
In 2023, the trio recorded their first album, *This Is Crime Wave*, at Baz The Frenchman’s studio in Echo Park. The first single was “Fast Ones”—a song as fast as a bullet, featuring The D.O.C., a Death Row Records legend who emerged from obscurity to lend his voice to the chaos for the first time in two decades. The Codefendants brought that chaos to the stage: from the punk-soaked venues of Punk Rock Holiday and Bay Fest in Europe to the sun-baked concrete of Rhymefest in Los Angeles, where they shared the stage with legends like Xzibit, Dilated Peoples, and DJ Quik, as well as serving as the opening act for NOFX on their recent farewell tour.
2026 is shaping up to be a huge year for the punk trio, which is gearing up for the release of its second studio album, “LIFERS,” on April 3 and continuing its world tour.
