Demokratie ist Übungssache - Debattierclub

Democracy is more than just a political system—it thrives on the exchange of differing opinions, on listening, on reasoning, and on treating one another with respect. In an era of increasing polarization, it is clear that a democratic culture of dialogue must be practiced and strengthened time and again.

The Adult Education Center’s debate club provides a safe space for this. The focus is on practicing and improving tolerance, the ability to argue effectively, persuasiveness, and the capacity to see things from different perspectives in democratic debate. Together, participants establish the rules of the debate, opponents are selected by lottery, and participants are prepared in separate groups for the respective “pro” or “con” positions. The debate then takes place in the forum, followed by a vote, evaluation, and conclusions.

This format allows participants to experience democratic principles firsthand and helps foster the ability to engage in objective dialogue—contributing to the strengthening of democratic culture.
