denXte: Ist das noch Kunst?

In the organizer's words:

Art is meant to unsettle, art is allowed to unsettle, art should unsettle. In today’s art world, this is perhaps the most fundamental tenet. But what if the unsettling effect goes too far? Should there then be warning labels on museum tickets or theater programs? Or are we no longer dealing with art at all? Should the philosophy of art set boundaries—and perhaps even be required to do so? Join the discussion with dieXte and guest speaker Prof. Dr. Reinold Schmücker!

Reinold Schmücker is a professor of philosophy and the spokesperson for the research group “Access to Cultural Goods in the Digital Age” at the University of Münster. His current research interests focus in particular on the ethics of international relations and the ethics of access to cultural assets, the temporal dimension of justice, and the philosophy of art and artifacts.

denXte is an interactive philosophical lecture series in which renowned philosophers present socially relevant and academically significant questions in the form of thought experiments. After a brief thematic introduction by the philosophers, the audience is invited to explore their own intuitions on the topic and to contribute them—via smartphone voting and in a subsequent open discussion.

We recommend arriving early, as seating is limited. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
