Two performers, each carrying within them East and West German life stories, meet on stage. What does it mean to grow up as a child of a particular political system? What narratives, ways of thinking, but also longings, rifts, and misunderstandings do we carry forward? In a performative exploration, the German-German past is peeled back layer by layer, and blueprints for a shared political future are sketched out.

“Der Riss” is an artistically discursive play for young people ages 13 and up that explores the connection between political systems and one’s own perception

of the world. Central to this are the lived realities of families and themes of self-determination, care work, and gainful employment—always linked to the question: In

system do I want to live in?

A co-production with FWT Cologne and FFT Düsseldorf

SPIELARTEN
Once again this year, the Theater in der Meerwiese is participating as a venue in the NRW-wide SPIELARTEN festival for young audiences with a selection of productions. The festival guarantees exciting and inspiring theater experiences for everyone ages two and up. It showcases the diversity and high artistic quality of the contemporary independent theater scene in North Rhine-Westphalia. A total of six productions for daycare centers, schools, and families will be presented at the Meerwiese. Theater reveals worlds, tells stories, conveys emotions, and poses questions. The artists always keep the young audience at the center of their work. But adults shouldn’t be surprised if they find themselves captivated as well. Let yourself be surprised!
