Tom Ripley is commissioned by the wealthy New Yorker Greenleaf to persuade his son Richard to return to the U.S. He travels to Italy, where Richard is enjoying the carefree dolce vita with his girlfriend—the life Tom has always dreamed of. Because he has been paid a large sum of money, Tom conceals the fact that Richard does not want to return. When Greenleaf terminates the assignment and Tom loses his financial support, he kills Richard and assumes his identity. How long can this dangerous game go on?
