Zerbrochen – Kleist, Klassik, Krug

In this reading, five actors from the drama school DER KELLER show the decisive break in Kleist's life, question his self-image as an author and present perspectives from which Kleist develops his "Broken Jug" as his 'key drama'. In doing so, they draw on Kleist's letters and works as well as contemporary documents. These readings will be explained through analytical perspectives by Dr. Peter Jansen. In this way, the close connection between "broken Kleist", "broken jug" and "broken classicism" becomes clear and comprehensible. Modernism grows out of the broken classical period and Kleist himself becomes a figure of reflection of this new age that is dawning on him.
