The story centers on Hilde Knauser, a no-nonsense Christmas tree seller who cares about Christmas about as much as she does about contemplation, charity, or romantic feelings. For her, what matters most are sales, order, and selling as many Christmas trees as possible. But fate has other plans.

Through a series of surprising, quirky, and highly amusing encounters, Hilde is gradually confronted with the things she has long since forgotten: friendship, love, family, and the true meaning of Christmas. Along the way, endearing characters, humorous misunderstandings, romantic moments, and little musical interludes provide top-notch entertainment.
