Francis Baby Houseman spends her summer vacation with her family at Max Kellerman's hotel in 1963. There she meets the attractive dance teacher Johnny Castle. Although Johnny initially has no love for girls from rich families, he needs Baby's help when his dance partner Penny drops out. Baby quickly learns the mambo steps and the two grow closer. But thefts and the separation of staff and guests put their relationship to the test.
