JJ Weihl named her solo project after a chain of indoor playgrounds where the New Yorker grew up. And just as playful, nostalgic, and at the same time forward-looking is the multimedia world that Weihl has created with Discovery Zone. On her albums *Remote Control* and *Quantum Web*, for example, she explores her own culture of memory as well as the boundary between the human and the post-human in a fully digitized world. Gentle, sometimes meditative synth-dance-pop meets the avant-garde, featuring an almost baroque instrumentation with theremin, electric guitar, and synths, alongside video installations and the Uncanny Valley. Following her emotional “Commissioned Work,” the 2021 performance “Cybernetica,” Discovery Zone returns this year with brand-new music to her former adopted home of Berlin and to the Pop-Kultur Festival.
