ENGIN ・ Pop-Kultur Festival 2026
In the organizer's words:
August 24–30, 2026 | silent green Kulturquartier, Festsaal Kreuzberg, Kulturbrauerei, Pierre Boulez Saal, and more
Live concerts, experimental music formats, talks, and more. You can look forward to international and local artists, world premieres, and music in all its facets—from large stages to intimate club shows.
ENGIN from Mannheim show what German indie pop could sound like in 2026—namely, with maximum global inspiration. In their case, specifically drawing on Anatolian rock, U.S. psychedelia, and Britpop—and everything but formulaic pop and sentimental indie pop. Engin Devekiran (vocals and guitar), Jonas Stiegler (drums), and David Knevels (bass) have known each other partly since childhood and partly from college. With their album *Sag mir Almanya*, they put Germany on the couch. It’s no coincidence that Devekiran studied psychology and, in the title track, emphatically urges Germany to finally go to therapy. Good idea! But ENGIN’s songs aren’t just about Almanya: Multilingual—for the first time, Devekiran also wrote his own lyrics in Turkish—the band explores identity, love, longing, and coming of age. Fans are dancing to their music in Turkey and Germany—and beyond. Soon, they’ll be performing at the Pop-Kultur Festival 2026 as well.
