Music is supposed to be art, not a competition, but this fact still commands respect: Josi Miller actually won her very first turntables at age 16 in a DJ competition. Okay, wow! In the 2010s, she accompanied Trettmann, among others, live at the turntables. Today, however, she’s long since taken center stage herself. Last fall, following various singles and EPs, her highly acclaimed debut album *4 Stages Of Sleep* was finally released on Grönland Records. Sleeping, dreaming, staying up all night. Josi Miller has set her sights firmly on the night—and has delivered nothing less than a concept album on the subject. This music has a magnetic pull: driving beats, a voice charged with longing, arrangements that surprise time and again—and all of it straddling the line between dancefloor and listening music. Here, breakbeat meets pop; here, soul samples ground shimmering electronica passages. The Leipzig native has also made a name for herself as a sought-after producer for other acts.
