Jazztage Dortmund: Gabi Hartmann

On her debut album, French singer-songwriter Gabi Hartmann presents a sound all her own between chanson, jazz and folk - and in three different languages: French, English and Portuguese. To achieve this, she has collaborated with songwriter and producer Jesse Harris, who has already helped Norah Jones and Melody Gardot to achieve their sound.

When Jesse Harris suggested Gabi Hartmann to produce her album, she saw it as an invitation to combine everything that makes her tick musically. Her love of Billie Holiday and Billie Eilish, her friendships with Sudanese flutist Ghandi Adam and guitarist Abdoulaye Kouyaté from Guinea, her admiration for the great singer Henri Salvador and her memories of travels in Africa. Constantly evolving, Gabi sings songs in English ("Buzzing Bee," "I'll Tell You Something," "Baby"), in Portuguese ("Coração Transparente") and, of course, in French. Here in particular the great pieces "Une errante sur la terre", "l'amour incompris" or from her first single "Mille Rivages". The result makes the uniqueness of her voice shine in the most colorful colors.
