Experience an unforgettable sound experience: The world-famous Dresden Kreuzchor invites you to the festive Kreuzchor Vespers for the Feast of St. John in the impressive Kreuzkirche Dresden on Saturday, June 21, 2025 at 5:00 pm.
Under the experienced direction of Kreuzkantor Martin Lehmann, you can expect an exquisite program with works by composers such as Gottfried August Homilius, Wilfried Krätzschmar, Samuel Rüling and Oskar Wermann. You can look forward to special solo performances by the Crucians Magnus Zacharias, Frido Viehweger, Tamino Bruckmoser and Amon Goldberg, who will add a unique touch to the musical hour.
The young voices will be accompanied by Susanne Kupfer and choir conductor Sebastian Herrmann on the continuo organ, while Anton Matthes will play the impressive Jehmlich organ.
Vespers begins solemnly with Wilfried Krätzschmar's "Introitus für das Johannisfest" and Heinrich Schütz's profound "Die Himmel erzählen die Ehre Gottes". You can also experience the impressive works "Wohl dem, dem die Übertretung vergeben sind" and "Jauchzet Gott alle Land" by Andreas Hammerschmidt from the 17th century, which are set for two four-part choirs. The program is complemented by the first movement of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's Sonata No. 3 in A major for organ, Jaako Mäntyjärvi's moving "Canticum Calamitatis Maritimae", dedicated to the victims of the Estonia sinking, and Laudate Dominum by Estonian composer Urmas Sisask. This special Vespers will conclude with Johann Abraham Peter Schulz's timeless song "Der Mond ist aufgegangen".
