Yulianna Avdeeva spielt Chopin

She is considered the “master of soft tones”: Russian pianist Yulianna Avdeeva. She will make her debut with the Munich Philharmonic, performing Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2. The winner of the 2010 Chopin Competition feels a special connection to the Polish composer’s music: “Chopin’s music is so rich and moves me deeply.” Amy Beach may have felt something similar when, in 1885 at the age of 18, she made her debut as a concert pianist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra—also performing Chopin’s Second Piano Concerto. A few years later, she made music history with her “Gaelic Symphony,” the first symphony composed by an American woman. Inspired by Antonín Dvořák, she incorporated traditional Irish melodies into the work.
