Ein Tag ohne Frauen

When 90 percent of Icelandic women walked off the job one fall morning in 1975 and left their homes because they refused to work, cook, or take care of the children, they brought their country to a standstill and catapulted Iceland to the “best place in the world to be a woman.”
Told for the first time by the women themselves and accompanied by playful animations, A DAY WITHOUT WOMEN is subversive and unexpectedly funny. “We loved our chauvinist pigs,” recalls one of the activists, “we just wanted to change them a little!” The film is set to be released in 2025, just in time for the 50th anniversary of the strike, and with its message about women’s collective power to change their society, it encourages us to rethink what’s possible.
