Elf Traps *live*
Live drums and synthesizers meet beat-driven electronica and spiritual jazz - a new project by Rob Turner (formerly GoGo Penguin) and Liviu Gheorghe.
Elf Traps, born out of Manchester's underground scene, is a project in which driving electronica meets spiritual jazz and psychedelic, otherworldly sounds. On stage, live drums and synthesizers merge with drum machines, laptops, samplers, chopped-up vocal fragments and bespoke robotic percussion - creating a hypnotic dialogue of rhythm, texture and improvisation. The music evolves in real time, from meditative ambient passages to explosive, adrenaline-fueled rhythmic climaxes. No two performances are the same.
The idea comes from Mercury Prize nominee Rob Turner (Mammal Hands, formerly GoGo Penguin) and Liviu Gheorghe (formerly Matthew Halsall / Gondwana). Elf Traps combines the rhythmic chaos spirit of Squarepusher, the textural electronics of Four Tet and Floating Points and the spiritual openness of Pharoah Sanders - creating music that is raw, vibrant and full of emotional depth.
