In the organizer's words:
Yui Kakinuma Messe de Muromachi
What kind of music would a genius like Bach have composed had he been a Japanese composer at the end of the Muromachi period (ca. 1336–1573)? How would he have reacted to his first encounters with European music and Christianity? Yui Kakinuma (*1961) asked himself this question. In his Mass , he fuses two worlds and incorporates improvisational elements—a practice common in historical music in both Europe and Japan. The Muromachi Ensemble is the first in the world to combine traditional Japanese and Baroque European instruments into a new sonic symbiosis. Since 2022, the ensemble has been led by former assistant cathedral organist Kensuke Ohira.
