For over 30 years, East Germany has been seen as a testing ground for overcoming the challenges of structural change, but also as a testing ground for political radicalization strategies. In the exhibition "Discourse Zone East - Repair and Revolution", we are showing the photographic, video-based and sculptural works of the artists Eric Meier, Erik Niedling and Sven Gatter, which reflect these developments and open up spaces for thought beyond the usual explanatory patterns, for the first time together in the Berlin AFF Gallery from May 2 to June 30, 2024.
An accompanying series of events with political scientist and psychoanalyst Dr. Judith Christine Enders, transformation researcher Prof. Dr. Melanie Jaeger-Erben, museum director Ulrike Kremeier, educator Florian Fischer, author and educator ManuEla Ritz, writer and journalist Annett Gröschner, writer and dramaturge Peggy Mädler and photo artist Wenke Seemann will explore the themes of the exhibition in greater depth with workshops, readings and talks.
