Winning band jazz@undesigned by the Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation
Extraordinary Machine took a wrong turn somewhere between jazz and pop and discovered a few shortcuts into the middle of the young German jazz scene along the way.
Despite an unmistakable penchant for big melodies, massive chords and lush grooves, the compositions penned by bandleader and guitarist Leon Maria Plecity always leave enough room for improvisation and manage the balancing act between jazz and pop in a remarkably effortless way. Although the music covers a wide stylistic range, it always remains tangible, gripping and honest - without being pretentious or pandering.
The unusually large line-up with the sound of voice, saxophone and trumpet as one body of sound and the claim to diversity embodied by the members themselves make you sit up and take notice and skillfully break with traditional ideas of jazz music.
