On October 7, 2023, Dror Mishani is a guest at a crime fiction festival in France when he receives news from Tel Aviv: his wife has fled with his daughter to a bomb shelter, shaky videos show armed men attacking Israeli settlements near the border with the Gaza Strip. For him, this day marks the beginning of a new way of writing:
