Coincidence or coincidence? The Filipino choreographer Ea Torrado not only shares a birthday with the American pop icon Madonna - their biographies also show astonishing parallels: first steps in classical ballet, a strict Catholic upbringing, the constant struggle for self-determination. In the solo Brown Madonna, Torrado takes this proximity - and difference - to Madonna as the starting point for an ethnography of the living body. Her dazzling costume is constantly changing: with every layer that falls off, another role that she takes on becomes visible. A feminist DIY spectacle about the pressure to perform, identity and the search for liberation.
