Screening and discussion with the directors
We are showing three short films that deal with topics such as toxic relationships and physical and psychological violence and make the (often) invisible visible. Following the screenings, we invite you to a discussion with the directors to talk about their films. There will be individual interviews as well as a panel discussion where questions from the audience are welcome:
"Beneath my skin"
In our short film, we accompany Chris on an emotional journey - from rejection, self-hatred and hopelessness to the realization of his own self-worth and the joy of life. Our aim was to portray this process honestly, openly and with all the feelings that go with it. As artists, we combined the power of language in the form of poems with the visualized emotions of the film. We see art as an opportunity
opportunity and outlet to express our emotions and give them a tangible form. DIRECTOR: Daniela Krumm
"Being Cringe" // 5:41min
Leonie made this film a few months ago, at a time when she was intensively grappling with the concept of "cringe". She asked herself questions like: "What does it mean for me? How does it affect me? Is there such a thing as too much thinking?" She realized that she often finds herself in situations where she thinks: "Oh God, that was unpleasant. Others must think I'm unpleasant." These thoughts have often stopped her from doing nice things for fear of what others will think. The film explores the idea of turning "being cringeworthy" - i.e. triggering a bit of external shame - into something positive. DIRECTOR: In her films, Leonie Rau focuses on mental health and makes the invisible visible - that which is often suppressed by society. In this way, she gives feelings the space they deserve. This understanding saved her back then, and now she hopes to be of some help to others with her films - be it through food for thought or a better understanding. This is exactly why she is now studying film - for herself, for others and for a better world.
"Where the grass is purple" // 32min
Leonie, who has escaped from her violent partner, moves in with the cheerful painter Chloe. Through their budding friendship, Leonie rediscovers her zest for life and passion for writing. But the calls from her ex don't stop - and neither does her fear of him. Leonie finally tells Chloe what she has experienced before, which causes Leonie's development to go uphill. She blocks his numbers and quits her job. But then he suddenly turns up again. At first Leonie is intimidated by this and wants to flee again, but motivated by Chloe, Leonie finally decides to fight for her freedom. DIRECTOR: Klara Schminckler is studying film with a focus on directing and screenwriting and is looking for: authenticity, authenticity, emotions, people in their inconsistency, absurdity and variance. With her film, she wants to generate more attention for the topic of 'violence against women' and give women a voice that they are not yet able to raise.
