In the organizer's words:

'Geierwally' is actually a Bavarian Heimat novel by Wilhelmine von Hillern from 1873, inspired by an episode from the life of Tyrolean Anna Stainer-Knittel, a portrait and flower painter. Just over 100 years later, Walter Bockmayer, a pub owner, actor, director and queer Cologne bird of paradise, took von Hillern's novel as the model for his shrill and idiosyncratic Heimatfilm parody DIE GEIERWALLY - according to TV Spielfilm, "a garish, irreverent mix of musical, folk theater, slapstick and tranny trash by Walter Bockmeyer". Sissy magazine called it "one of the great moments of bad taste".

The film screening (including a TV interview with Walter Bockmayer and Rolf Bührmann) will take place as part of WALTER BOCKMAYER - Dat Festiväll. Festiväll passes and the discounted combination ticket 'Geier & Wally' will soon be available on our Festiväll page.
