The experiences of childhood shape us well into old age. Relationships with parents are just as decisive as the events that shape us. But even a mother's love cannot protect us from all strokes of fate.

PRAGMA

The relationship between the young adult Lili and her mother is distant, but at the same time oppressive. The tension between the two goes so far that Lili gets worse and worse with every bite of her mother's birthday dinner.

In this film essay, director Mariana Mendivil deals with the feeling of not belonging after her parents migrated with her as a small child. Photo snippets, animal images and barren landscapes form a poetic collage.
