Focus on Laila Nysten: Laila Nysten String Quartet + Analogue Swing (JazzHall SummerFestival)
In the organizer's words:
With her jazz string quartet, Laila Nysten presents an ensemble that moves effortlessly between classical sounds, post-bop jazz, and groove. The dynamic quartet impresses both as a well-rehearsed team with a brilliant sound and as individual improvisers. With original compositions and sophisticated arrangements of jazz standards by Charles Mingus, Cole Porter, and others, the four musicians demonstrate that string quartets and jazz are no longer opposites. With the charm of a French street café, tapping feet, and a little tear in the corner of the eye, Analogue Swing brings danceable swing music to a wide variety of venues. With an irrepressible joy of playing and improvising, Sophie Kockler, Laila Nysten, David Mohr, Zarek Silberschmidt, and Timon Krämer perform both authentic original compositions and classics of Hot Club jazz in a fresh new style. With their diverse musical roots in pop, jazz, and classical music, they come together through a shared passion for swing, creating a musical experience of exceptional quality that invites you to let go, daydream, and dance. Their debut album, “Stompin’,” was released in April 2026.
