Movie content:
Celie grows up in the southern states of the USA at the beginning of the 20th century. She is abused by her father at a young age and married off early. Her husband treats her badly and Celie almost loses all hope of a better life. But over the years, she meets women who encourage her - like the self-confident singer Shug Avery and her sister-in-law Sofia. Little by little, Celie finds her own voice, her pride and the strength to free herself from her difficult situation.
A moving story about courage, hope and the strength of female friendships - based on the award-winning novel by Alice Walker.
