After months of doing nothing on the Philippine island of Surogao, Caruso, a former professional surfer and private detective, is deeply in debt. The Spanish woman who hires him to find her son comes in handy. Surogao is not only a paradise for surfers, but also a transshipment point for drugs. Caruso's investigations lead him into an abyss of violence and corruption.

Daniel Faßbender works in a newsroom and lives in Cologne. With 'Heaven's Gate', he was the recipient of a 1:1 mentoring grant from the Literaturbüro NRW and the Literaturhaus Bonn.
