From Agent Dickinson's Pocket
Reading and performance with Zack Darsee and Elise Houcek
What begins as a crime thriller soon takes an unexpected turn. In*From the Pocket of Agent Dickinson*(Inside the Castle, 2025), Elise Houcek and Zack Darsee draw on the spy novel genre to explore surveillance, language, and the fragmented realities of the digital age.
The book follows a detective investigating the disappearance of mysterious “beings of light.” Documents, transcripts, screenshots, code fragments, and shifting voices accumulate, creating a world that increasingly eludes certainty.
Houcek and Darsee wrote the novel by taking turns word for word, resulting in a work that oscillates between poetry, fiction, and performance. In the form of a live reading, the audience is drawn into a labyrinth of clues, interruptions, and competing narratives. This raises the question of how meaning emerges from the flood of information.
