The Historical Archive with Rhenish Picture Archive invites you to an open day. The occasion is the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Rheinisches Bildarchiv (RBA), which has performed a variety of tasks as the visual memory of the city of Cologne since 1926. In order to present these, various themed tours will provide exclusive insights into the work areas of the Rheinisches Bildarchiv and thus allow visitors to experience how a modern image archive works.

Since its foundation in 1926, the Rheinisches Bildarchiv has been producing new photographic images for our city. The FotoMedienWerkstatt is responsible for this, mastering all types of photographic image production from digital photography to classic laboratory work in the darkroom. This guided tour will give you an insight into the photo studio and the development from analog to current digital recording technology in the field of artwork photography. In the newly equipped photo laboratory, you will learn about the different ways in which historical photographs from the archive holdings are made visible.
