A tribute to Miles Davis on his 100th birthday In 2026, the Fun Horns are celebrating a double anniversary: the brass band founded in East Berlin is 40 years old - and is dedicating its new concert program to the 100th birthday of Miles Davis, one of its central musical influences. The tribute is dedicated in particular to the album Kind of Blue, which has left a deep stylistic and emotional mark on the work of the Fun Horns. This masterpiece of the 20th century is revisited by the band in an independent version - in the sound language of a chamber music improvising wind quartet. Respectful, free and with the openness that once made Kind of Blue so revolutionary.

From studio horns to world music tours

Since their foundation in 1986, the Fun Horns have undergone an extraordinary development: Originally conceived as a studio horn section, the ensemble quickly found its way to a distinctive live concept - completely without a rhythm section, but with enormous stylistic range, groove and playfulness. More than 12 CD releases, international festival appearances and tours through South America, Africa, Russia, India and Europe bear witness to the band's lasting artistic presence.
Whether at the invitation of the Goethe Institute in South America, Africa or Central Asia, as a celebrated festival act in the early 90s or as an internationally acclaimed ensemble (German Record Critics' Award) - the Fun Horns have stood for an unmistakable, innovative profile in contemporary jazz for decades. An ensemble with a history and a future The formation has constantly evolved over four decades - with new members such as Rainer Brennecke (1991), Falk Breitkreuz (1998) and Nikolaus Neuser (2012), who have played a key role in shaping the Fun Horns sound. Despite changes, the spirit of the band remains unchanged: four independent voices that come together in a collectively breathing body of sound - full of energy, humor and depth.
