No question: Jon Flemming Olsen is not only an excellent singer and multi-instrumentalist, he is also a subtle entertainer and storyteller. Even the great Reinhard Mey said of his beguilingly beautiful songs, which are completely devoid of pretentiousness, schmaltz and corniness: "I wish there were still radio stations that played songs like this." And Olli Schulz confirms: "Jon Flemming Olsen is a fantastic musician." That sounds good. But - who exactly is this man?
For 18 years, the Hamburg native played Olli Dittrich's congenial counterpart "Ingo" in the award-winning WDR series "Dittsche - das wirklich wahre Leben". However, the fact that the TV snack bar owner is actually a musician first came to the public's attention when he took part in the ESC with "Texas Lightning" and their No. 1 hit "No No Never". But before the star hype and commercial hamster cage could really get a hold of him, Olsen himself left the band he had founded and took a break from music. Apparently an important phase of discovery, because in 2014 he returned with "Immer wieder weiter", his first solo album - without a cowboy hat and in German. This was followed in 2017 by "Von ganz allein", a musical free float, so to speak: for the first time, songs and lyrics were written exclusively by him. Olsen released his third album, "Mann auf dem Seil", recorded live in front of an audience accompanied by the string quartet "Kammerensemble Konsonanz", in the middle of the coronavirus year 2020 and was promptly rewarded with a nomination for the "Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik".
Jon Flemming Olsen has now completed around three hundred performances as a soloist in clubs, theaters, on cabarets and at festivals. And this is exactly how he will now present the songs from his brand new album "Haus der Liebe": As an impressive one-man band with guitars, mandolin, Irish bouzouki, foot percussion, and a bag full of good stories.
