What impact has the history of Nazi forced labor had on the families of the descendants—and how does memory change across generations?

Four relatives of former forced laborers from different countries and generations talk about their family histories. Their ancestors were deported to Leipzig for forced labor during the Nazi era and were forced to work there for the arms manufacturer HASAG and other companies. The descendants share what they grew up knowing, what was remembered or kept hidden within their families, and how their ancestors’ experiences continue to shape their own lives to this day.

The forum offers personal insights into different cultures of remembrance and invites participants to engage in conversation about the transmission of history, responsibility, and the significance of remembrance for the present.

The event is part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the Leipzig Memorial to Forced Labor. Afterward, there will be an opportunity for informal conversation over music and refreshments.
