Gisbert zu Knyphausen (solo)
Ever since his second album "Hurra! Hurray! So nicht." from 2010, the Berlin singer and guitarist Gisbert zu Knyphausen has been one of the top German-language songwriters. It is said that his lyrics are mostly melancholy. But there is always a glimmer of hope, a belief in the good and a great deal of love and affection for the often struggling characters in his stories.
The official debut album "Gisbert zu Knyphausen" was released in 2008 by the renowned record label PIAS Recordings. The press and audience were equally impressed by the raw, direct songs. "Zu Knyphausen never wallows in his defeats, he maintains an attitude that makes him believe in tomorrow. More of this, please!" demanded DER SPIEGEL.
In 2010, the aforementioned second album "Hurra! Hooray! So nicht.", which entered the German album charts at number 12. On top of that, he was nominated for the 1Live Krone as best alternative artist.
After trips to Russia, Albania, France and, at the invitation of the Goethe Institute, to Iran, the long-awaited album "Das Licht dieser Welt" was released in 2017, for which zu Knyphausen and his new band spent almost two full years on the road.
Since the same year, Gisbert zu Knyphausen has also been on the road with the project "Husten" with producer Moses Schneider and Der dünne Mann. After various EPs, two long-player albums have now been released.
In 2021, zu Knyphausen ventured into classical music. Together with Duisburg pianist Kai Schumacher, he brought Schubert songs into the present day on "Lass irre Hunde heulen" and performed them in venues such as the Philharmonie Köln, the Mercatorhalle Duisburg and the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg.
