The Rhine: a river landscape that is politically charged like no other and which leads right into the heart of the question of what (or who) it actually is: Germany. Since the Romantic period, when the first travelers from England discovered the Middle Rhine Valley for tourism, the Rhine and its banks have been related to the economy, politics and society in poems, legends and images. Something was perceived in the landscape that made one's own political existence more tangible. Futur3 follows in the footsteps of these travelers and asks what images still circulate about the Rhine today - and what they tell us about our longings, fears and identities. Voices from the 19th century interweave with original sounds from the present and experiences of the ensemble to put well-known stories to the test. Together with the audience, Futur3 embarks on a poetic, contrasting and entertaining river journey between past and future.
