Goethe!
In the organizer's words:
Young Johann Wolfgang Goethe has a big dream of becoming a poet. His father, however, sends him to college so he can study something “more respectable,” where Johann Wolfgang fails his law exam and is ordered by his furious father to sort files at the Imperial Chamber Court in Wetzlar.
Only his friend Wilhelm Jerusalem takes him seriously. And then he falls head over heels in love with the vivacious Charlotte Buff … This encounter is to give rise to one of the most famous works of German literature: “The Sorrows of Young Werther.”
The musical blends historical facts with dramatic fiction and rousing music. Premiered in 2021 and awarded the German Musical Theater Prize, it ranks among the most exciting new German-language musicals. The new production by Theater Solingen is coming to the Forum Leverkusen shortly after its premiere (marking the fifth collaboration between Solingen and Leverkusen). Performances at the IGA in the Ruhr region are then planned for the following fall.
Want to see more? “Werther” is also available as a multimedia concert!
