Probably the most apt description of Gregory Porter comes from "Deutschlandfunk Kultur" and simply declares him to be the "figurehead of contemporary jazz". The giant singer with the velvety baritone is truly a phenomenon. Porter is often regarded as a late-comer because his career only really took off when he was over 40. He simply had to breathe in a whole lot of life in order to form his deeply empathetic, soft and touching voice: as a football player, as a chef or as a member of the cast of a Broadway show. Since then, he has been nominated for the Grammy a record-breaking eight times in 16 years. He has also received it twice. His songs are of great socio-political relevance and at the same time are indeed of a beauty that is relevant to solutions. In short: this man is an event.
