Guitar Celebration
In the organizer's words:
Guitar Celebration—All Facets of Guitar Performance
Emotional and captivating—the guitar, one of the most widely played and versatile instruments of our time, will once again be heard in all its facets on August 28, 2026, at the Kulturkirche Altona. The wistful, melancholic expansiveness of a Celtic ballad quickly transforms into a fiery Spanish buleria, and an intense blues piece becomes fast-paced Balkan jazz.
Whether classical, jazz, pop, rock, blues, flamenco, or world music: the repertoire of this internationally diverse trio—comprising Ian Melrose (Scotland), Rüdiger Krause (Germany), and Nikos Tsiachris (Greece)—will leave nothing to be desired on this evening. All three are virtuosos, composers, and arrangers, and whether performing solo or in duets—but especially in their trio arrangements—these three renowned guitar masters deliver a musical and audiophile delight of the highest quality.
Since their last visit here in the spring of 2024, they have created several new arrangements and compositions—both solo and as a duo and trio. Time and again, the audience has drawn comparisons to the legendary trio of Paco de Lucía, John McLaughlin, and Al Di Meola. Guitar Celebration has taken on this challenge and will perform, among other pieces, a medley of “Rio Ancho” & “Mediterranean Sundance” as well as “Guardian Angel” from the repertoire of the legendary guitar trio at the Kulturkirche Altona. In addition, Rüdiger Krause will perform a Brecht/Weil piece (Surabaya Johnny); Ian Melrose will perform one of the most famous anthems from the Arab world (Wa Habibi); and Nikos Tsiachris will bring pure emoción to our stage with new flamenco compositions.
Complemented by magnificent original compositions and interpretations of well-known classics by artists such as Deep Purple, Albéniz, Dave Brubeck, Henry Mancini, and Bach, the trio—with an irrepressible passion for sonic beauty and improvisation—proves once again why the guitar is one of the world’s most beloved instruments.
Rüdiger Krause (jazz, blues)
Nikos Tsiachris (flamenco, classical)
Ian Melrose (Folk, World Music)
