home cinema: THE FAVOURITE

The early 18th century: While England is at war with France, the royal court amuses itself by racing ducks and eating pineapples. Although the frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) sits on the throne, the actual regent is her close friend and lady-in-waiting Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz). She also looks after Anne's health and her erratic moods. When the new maid Abigail (Emma Stone) takes up her position, she quickly ingratiates herself with Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees her chance to return to her aristocratic roots. As the political disputes take up more and more of Sarah's time, Abigail takes her place next to the queen and from then on acts as her confidante. The budding friendship now gives Abigail the opportunity to realize her ambitious goals, and she will not allow any woman, man, politics or anything else to stand in her way. (Source: distributor)
