Drummer Ruben tours the USA together with singer Lou to perform in clubs all over the country as a meta duo. The two are also in a private relationship. But then Ruben suddenly has problems with his hearing. A visit to the doctor, which he initially conceals from Lou, brings certainty: his hearing is probably only getting worse and he could end up completely deaf. After initially resisting the idea, Ruben finally moves into a facility that is specially designed to help deaf people get used to life without hearing. However, hearing people are explicitly unwelcome there - which is why Ruben has to cope with this difficult experience without his Lou
