NJ Jian, his wife Min-Min and their two children are a typical middle-class family who share their apartment in Taipei with Min-Min's elderly mother. NJ is a partner in a computer hardware company that has made huge profits in the last year, but will soon go bankrupt if it doesn't turn things around. He takes a liking to the idea of teaming up with Ota, an innovative gaming software developer from Japan, and enjoys spending time with the charming and urbane Japanese man. Things start to go downhill for the Jians on the day Min-Min's brother A-Di gets married. On this day, Min-Min's mother suffers a stroke and is taken to hospital in a coma, from which she may never wake up. It's also the day NJ meets Sherry, his first childhood sweetheart, a woman (now married) he hasn't seen in twenty years.
