In the last of the four editions of the Cologne concert series HW23C_ of the chamber music ensemble hand werk, two world premieres by Andrea Neumann and Günter Steinke are on the program. Andrea Neumann musically bridges the gap between notated and improvised music, while Günter Steinke radically exploits the compositional possibilities of notation in his works. In addition, there is a selection of music by Amnon Wolman, Francisca Martins, Giordano Bruno do Nascimento and Mark Barden. The musical action is framed in a stage set of sculpturally ephemeral moments, designed by Berlin artist Paulette Penje. This second, visual level emerges parallel to the music being played, alternately competing with or in harmony with it, and luring us out of the conventional concert-goer perspective: actions you can't hear and sounds you can't see.
